I AM SO PISSED! Ok, so I need some perspective from my fellow bloggers. Let me know if I am being totally irrational. I drove by our lot today because I just so happen to be in the neighborhood. I didn't expect to see much action because they just poured our basement walls on Friday. It turns out they put the waterproof wrap around the foundation. No one was there so I decided to take a closer look and take some pictures. As I was walking around the house, I saw this:
|
It says: "David's Arm" and there's an arm print |
I don't know who the hell "David M" and "Emily C" are but I know they are totally disrespectful! This is MY house! What gives them the right to permanently inscribe their names on the the foundation of MY HOUSE?!?!? I understand that I won't be able to see this once they put the walls up but I'm still annoyed. I wasn't even that mad at first until I called my husband to tell him. He never gets mad about anything. This pissed him off. I think his anger fueled my rage and now I'm really pissed. My husband decided to e-mail our sales rep and tell her that he wants it filled in. Just knowing it's there gets under his skin. Are we being totally ridiculous? What if these assholes come back and write their names in our driveway or our sidewalk?!?
Not to take away from our progress... here are some pics of the foundation with the waterproof wrapping.

I like how the inside of the walls have the brick shape too |

ReplyDeleteIt's no big deal.
Once the walls go up, you will NEVER see it. Of all the things that will create heartache in the building process, this is not worth it.
While walking our lot, we met a few neighbors. Some told me that they would go through all the houses as they were built. To the point that they would find an open window to go through to peruse and see what the newbies were getting. So in the grand scheme, it's really no big deal. As for writing in the driveway or porch? worry about it if/when it happens.
Thanks for your honesty. I know I'm being a little crazy.
DeleteI can understand why you are upset. You want everything to be perfect with your new house that you are excited about and some thoughtless kids messed with it.
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved into our current home which was with half the houses in the neighborhood done, we found out that most people go through the homes as they were being built. Kids would play in the dumpsters (seriously?). Basically, people do not have respect for other's property.
In the grand scheme, though, Sgt. Rich is right and although you are understandably upset, you will never see it again.
What the?........ I am pissed for you! I take this building process very seriously and to heart. I have already made up in mind that I will be doing a cleansing ritual because of the amount of traffic entering the home. My husband said, the kids were just being kids...maybe so. But I think I still would have been pissed! Eventually, I would have gotten over feeling a particular kind of way and asked the PM to correct the damage.
ReplyDeleteUgh!!! I'd be bothered as well. This is a pretty emotional process-- to see that kids violated your space, it must be frustrating! Hang in there, CMM!
ReplyDeleteboth the original post and follow up comment made mention of "repairing" the damage. The only fix I could think of is they will trowel some quikrete over the infractions. BUT, I would be more worried about THAT then some names hiding in the "wood work". What happens when that little, thin smearing of concrete expands and contracts, breaks, cracks and deteriorates? I am guessing you could have a bigger issue then some punks names written. Maybe it would be fine. I don't know, but I don't want to find out.
ReplyDeleteSorry that you have to deal with it. In our neighborhood some kids spray painted on a couple of walls, one of which was phallic in nature. They didn't do anything to cover it up other than putting up the drywall. I would be upset that someone else tagged my home and not me, but in the grand scheme of things, it will get covered over and not be seen once the walls go up.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I will get over it. It's just annoying. How can people be so disrespectful?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sgt. Rich. I would be more worried about the repair because of the different curing times and lack of chemical adhesion that you have when everything is poured all at once. And...as I learned from an older woman in the grocery store one day in my rambunctious teen years: "Ignorance is Bliss" They don't know the impact on your emotions and they win if you let it bother you forever. Focus on the good stuff. ...like...thank goodness David didn't get stuck in your foundation. :) Trust Karma....it will pay them back in good time.
ReplyDeleteI literally laughed out loud when I read this! Thanks for that!
DeleteOkay, that was funny! Hope you are feeling better CMM!
DeleteThat's what I'm here for! ;) If I had the time I'd make a photoshop pic of it for you. I'm glad to hear that Ryan is taking care of it legally. It will def. send the message to them to stay out. The bonus is that they were stupid enough to inscribe their last initials. Gotta love it!
DeleteI have this picture of CMM and husband walking around the subdivision meeting people and some neighbor says "Oh, this is my son David I would like you to meet". CMM says, "Sooo nice to meet you David. Are you friends with Emily?" David answers, "Yeah, I am. How did you know?"
ReplyDeleteThe scene is set and now fades to red...
From my own experience at my last house I had someone write something on the wall that was derogatory about the house builders and the home. I will admit I have not forgotten those words even though the wall was replaced and care not to share them with polite company. Not that it makes it all peachy, but they could have written something a lot worse than their names. Regardless, it is still okay to be angry about it, it is your home!
Possibly instead of filling in the names maybe they could buff the names out and therefore keep the integrity of the wall by not having disparate layers of concrete which a patch job could possibly cause. It might be an option to ask them about.
HA HA HA!!! I had this conversation with my husband earlier. I said, "What happens if someone introduces us to their children, David and Emily?" I don't think I would be able to keep a straight face. I might even burst out laughing because I assume I won't be angry about it at that point!
DeleteI would keep this picture just for this reason! the idea of meeting the punk brats and then "bus driving" them would be awesome.
DeleteI would be upset too, but remember what goes around will eventually come around. The lack of supervision and others violating another persons property is just so wrong. Wonder how they would feel if it were their first home? Maybe some day they will be in your shoes. Hang in there!
